I remember at the beginning of this school year when i was so optimistic and bright eyed... i seriously thought i was going to be able to update this blog at least a couple times a week. Little did i know of just how time consuming the process of making my own film would be. It didn't take long into this semester for stuff like this blog to be pushed to the back of my priorities. Oh well! Here are some set dressings from my film! Hopefully these digital morsels will sustain you for the rest of the cold analogue winter. Or at least until i get my film done.
Well... thats enough time on the internet... back to work!

Hey Hey!

So this past summer I was given an opertunity to do a short job for a studio in toronto called Big. I was to join a fellow classmate (Bora Moon) and help her make a music video for a band called Turbina. Anyway, long story short, I worked with Bora a little bit on the story boards although realistically, she did all the story boards while i worked on modeling the robot characters (yes... more robots. because robots are AWESOME!). At the end of the summer, Bora and I had to leave to go back to school and the video (texturing, rigging, animation) was still unfinished. But we just recieved word from Big that the video has been completed. So here it is! Hope you enjoy it!

Hey! I know its been a good long while since ive posted anything here. Thats only because ive been so busy at the school working on my film... that i have hardly had time to even think of my blog. And truthfully... the stage that im at in production doesnt really lend itself to me posting anything that you might find interesting. But i FINALLY have something cool to show you guys! This is the very first scene of my film re-animated, textured, light, and rendered! My intention was to have this and call it the final render of this scene... but i have already seen things that i need to fix. So this is in the process of being rerendered... which takes a LOOOONG time! But in the mean time, i can show you this! If theres anyone left who actually checks out my blog, i hope you enjoy this!

Hooo!

So ten days since my last post... what can i say? Ive been taking it easy i guess. Oh well! Its CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS! I can afford to relax for a bit.
So here they are! These are the first renderings from my film! The first result of my texturing and lighting. All of the texture maps, bump maps, reflection maps, and transparency maps were painted by me in Open Canvas! Im gonna try to have most of my sets textured and lit by the end of the holidays. These renderings are from the subway/train station. The bottom two are the closest to the final product out of all of them. The rest are explorations to get to that final result. In the close up of the wall, you can see the changes i fooled around with in the tile floor. I plugged a "ramp" into the reflection output of the floor shader to make the floor most reflective when viewed at certain angles... its supposed to simulate the resinol effect that you sometimes see on certain surfaces.. i think i spelled that wrong... maybe. There are other things that i fiddled around with... but i dont want to bore you guys too much.

Look out for a more complete rendering!

Story Revisions are like and old fling. She drops by every once in a while, calls you out of the blue, wants to go out for coffee (maybe even a couple of drinks). And even though last time we swore WOULD be the last time, they still manage to make us forget why we hated doing them in the first place. Then you wake up the next morning with a head ache, dirty sheets, and a strong urge to shower. While Story Revision cooks up eggs with a big grin on her face and your dignity in her back pocket.

So here it is! The final cut of my leica reel. There's some test animations thrown in here... rest assured that they will be beaten to death and eventually look like GOOD animation!

Anyway... im off to get some food... and think about the next 4 months of full-on production that now lay ahead of me!

Hey! So i know its been a while since i posted anything... and its been even longer since i posted anything related to my film. I ran into a few... problems... here and there. My stupid hard drive crashed on me... which almost caused me to lose a months worth of work. Lucky for me, my roommate is VERY good with computers and was able to recover my project files. Anyway... a week or so later, i was finally able to get back to work on my film. And here is the result!

MY LITT ESSAY IS FINALLY DONE!

After what feels like an eternity working on my literature essay, im FINALLY done! I wish I could express to you guys just how frustrating the past week was working on this essay while my film got put on the backburner. Maybe now I can actually start to create fresh new art for my film again! WOOT!

Hey! So I finally got around to photographing my more recent life drawings. No more life drawings from 2 months ago. These ones are... NEW! I also included a photo of me in front of my display case in the animation hallway! As you can tell from the look on my face, I’m TOTALLY psyched about having my own display case. I actually am really excited... I have no idea why I look so apathetic there.

I gotta go, the mayor wants to rap with me about some things.

Hey! So... the first night that i was in Quebec, we went to this chic bar to see a Portishead cover band. They were pretty cool, and on the train ride home i decided to try to do some drawings of the band. I originally intended to make this a 3 part painting: one of the singer, one of the guitarist and one of the keyboard player. Then when the 3 paintings were done i could put them together and... i dunno... maybe it'd be cool or something. But so far im only happy with the Singer... so i might just leave it at that. Or if i get time to do the others... i might... i dont know. I know this doesnt have anything to do with my film... but today was kinda stressful. So when i got home... i really just wanted to do something for fun.

The anatomy is botched to hell... and i dont remember if she was actually wearing hooker boots... i dont think she was... but oh well. Its just for fun.

Since variety is the spice of life, this painting comes in two styles! One has a BG thats intended to imitate the misty atmosphere of the bar. The other has a BG that is simply a solid colour (perhaps to be a bit more graphical... i dunno)

Anyway, im off to procrastinate more on my Literature essay!

Hey! So its been another long while since i posted anything... and the reason for that is that ive been in Quebec for the past few days. So ive been away from my art... and my ability to make it digital. The only stuff ive got thats new is the models that ive been making for my film... but thats probably pretty boring for you guys... so they can wait till later.
In the mean time... i guess ill just post an old life drawing. This is another life drawing from the beggining of the year. Its not that great... but hey... its something i guess!

Hey! So i spent all day at the Royal Winter Fair today! For those of you that dont know, I go there every year with my class mates to draw animals. So you might think... "why not post one of the drawings i did at the fair?" And to that i say "NEVER!" Well... maybe tomorrow... or something. Just chill out! I need to scan them still... and that takes time.

No Man's Land

Hey! I am currently suffering from MASSIVE heart burn... so i will be brief. This is another concept painting for my film. The goal of this painting was to explore mood and texture that i hope to achieve in my film. Im pretty happy with how it looks... so i hope im able to translate this mood into 3D.
I did this painting entirely in Open Canvas v.4.03. For those of you that dont know, Open Canvas is a GREAT digital painting program that i like to use instead of Photoshop. You can go to the open canvas site and download a free trial! I would recommend that anyone who enjoys to paint, check out the program. I think youll find it to be far more fluid and painterly than Photoshop.

Hey! So here is the second cut of my Leica reel. Its still fairly rough. Some of the storyboards didnt scan too well... so thats why theyre so jaggedy. Also, i havent added the soundtrack yet... so its still silent. Sound is my job for tomorrow, so hopefully i will have a new cut with sound posted by tomorrow night.

Hey! So i had a few hours to kill... and i had Open Canvas open in front of me... and ive had this picture in my head for a while. So i decided to throw this down onto the screen. I basically just painted one of my story boards panels again... the same as the other robot painting (which is why the underdrawing is so crummy... each story board panel is only like an inch and a half wide). Just another colour/mood study for my film.

Hey! So its been a long time since I posted anything... and that is because i was just in Quebec City for the past... week almost. So hopefully my stuff hasnt gotten too stale to anyone who actually reads this stuff. Quebec is AMAZING by the way! The city is SOOOOO beautiful! Stupid Oakville is ugly...

Hey! So i know i didnt really post anything yesterday... but this post will be worth double!
I figured out how to post videos from YouTube and be able to view it right from my blog. WOOT!

Anyway... this is a test animation of the opening scene in my film. There's no textures... and the character rig is fairly sloppy. Im going to have to rerig the arms and hands... if you notice the hands kinda wig out a bit when he climbs up onto the rail.

But try not to look to carefully for all the problems, and enjoy!

So i passed a huge milestone today. I finished the first pass of my storyboards. This may not seem like that big of a deal to a lot of people... but it is for me because i HATE storyboarding! Im terrible at it... and it takes me for frickin ever! But now that thats done, i can move forward with the more fun and exciting parts. Like making my Leica Reel (i dont know if im spelling "leica" right... ive never known)... and modeling... and texturing... and ANIMATING! YEAH! This year is gonna be awesome!

Anywho... here's another concept painting for my film, and a rough model/rig of my little light bulb character. As soon as i have my leica done, ill post that on YouTube. That should be cool.

Just a little break from robots for the moment. Steph leaves tomorrow to go back to Quebec. Its been a wonderful month having her here... but i suppose her going back home will be good for both of us. She'll be able to work on her music, and i will be able to concentrate on my film. Plus ill still get to see her for our birthday (day... not days) and christmas and all that. So we should be just fine.

I digress... in honor of my wonderful girlfriend and the time we've had together this month, i will post a painting i did of her. Hope you like it!!

Ahhhh puns... they slay me.

Well... first day back from Thanksgiving... and it went horrible! Life Drawing kinda sucked... and Literature was... well... i went in hoping to get some story boarding done... but that didnt really happen. In the end i guess my day wasnt that bad. I got to hang out with Steph after school... and we had a good supper and watched a good movie. So it was actually a really good day. Hope your day went well too!

So... because i screwed up and made a now useless blog, i am punishing myself by posting a second painting today. By doing this i am dipping into my reserve of artwork for the days that i dont feel like producing a piece of art to post... this will put more pressure on me to make more work every day. I hope your happy!
Oh yeah, this is concept art for the film that i am producing this year. The working title for the film is Loose Change right now. Be warned, most of what i post on this will be for my film... so it might turn into a bit of a production journal... which could be kinda cool actually.

Ok, so this is now my second blog entry ever... and ive already given up on my old blog. It turns out that when i made my first blog, my friend and i had this GREAT idea for the name of the blog... but i couldnt remember what it was. So i entered timboblogo.blogspot.com... which was WRONG! It wasnt until i spoke with Lianna that i realized my error. So ive made this new blog! timbobloggins.blogspot.com! Get it!? Its like... im... a baggins... from the Hobbit or something! ahahaha! Kills me. Anyway! Im just gonna post my first painting again. Its an homage to one of my favorite artist, Bill Watterson, one of the geniuses of our age.
